A RAY OF SUNSHINE IN A DARK SINFUL WORLD

When Jesus walked the earth, during His ministry, as He lived in Capernaum, He fulfilled a prophesy that had been written in the Old Testament:

Matthew 4:13-17:

From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zebulon and Naphtali: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying, The land of Zebulon, and the land of Naphtali, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles; The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up. From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Then in Matthew 11:21-24, He spoke to the people of that area again, Chorazin and Bethsaida were just across the Jordan River from each other:

“Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. But I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you.  And you, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, will be[d] brought down to Hades; for if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. But I say to you that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment than for you.” ”

So what happened that the people of that area did not benefit from the teaching of the Lord?

They didn’t listen to Him and repent…and do what He advised, even as people today do not listen. Some people prefer to remain in darkness spiritually. What a tragedy!
